Lacy. That was her name. An angel in appearance, and action. Gold brown locks, denim blue irises that sparkled even in darkness. She had just finished her volunteering at the local community center, reading to the blind. She wiped her sweating hand across her jeans before she unlocked the front door into her condo. Once inside, Lacy went to check on her sick grandmother. Nana had been weak for two years now, recovering from a bad case of pneumonia.
"Nana, you alright?" Lacy walked over to the resting form on her grandmother's bed.
"Fine, dear. What's for dinner tonight?" Nana asked as she struggled to sit up.
"I brought you some ham and cheese sandwiches from the community center."
"Oh, honey, what about you?"
"I'm fine, Nana.Already ate. I'll go heat up the sandwiches for you, OK?" Lacy left, without hearing her grandmother's response. She tried not to groan, struggling to hide her ravenous hunger from her grandmother. Can't eat now, must first put Nana to sleep.
Lacy quickly toasted the sandwiches, her stomach's pleading making her restless. She ran the sandwiches over to Nana, then cleaned around the living room to keep herself busy. She heard her Nana call for her.
"Done, Nana?" Lacy smiled, then giggled to cover up for her stomach's grumbles.
"Yes, dear. Are you sure you're alright? You-"
"I'm fine, really. Why don't you go to sleep now? I'll see you in the morning, love you."Lacy ran out and dumped Nana's plates in the sink. She couldn't wash them tonight, she was much too hungry. She sped over to the basement door, and opened it, saliva gathering at the front of her mouth. She stepped down to the last steps of the basement stairway. Lacy flipped the light switch on. A gut- wrenching smell filled the room, but it smelled like a paradise of food to Lacy. Her eyes skidded over the scene before her. A scene of clean, white bones. Each single bone part of a human skeleton. Equaling a total of 300 skeletons. Amidst the world of bone, lay a half- decomposed body. It was the body of Shelley McCollough, a secretary at the community center that had gone missing two days ago. One of her legs were missing, and her eyes and part of her nose had vanished. Lacy sprinted over to Shelley, and began chomping on her torso, tasting the dry blood, and then the burst of flavor as new fresh blood spilled out of Shelley's organs. Lacy finally reached the heart, the home of all blood. She heartily ate it, chomping on the luscious arteries and slurping on the chewy veins. Lacy stepped back from Shelley's practically finished body. Shelley was number 301. You see, Lacy had started a new hobby: eating bodies. She loved the flavor of blood and the gooeyness of organs. Last year, Lacy ate 487 bodies, and this year, she was going to extend her record to 500 bodies. She had 200 more bodies to go, and Lacy couldn't wait.
